Preparing for Baptism

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka. Mormons, LDS), I have the exciting privilege to teach my children about Jesus Christ and His example of being baptized while He was on the Earth. We believe that at the age of eight years, children are old enough to choose for themselves if they would like to be baptized and follow Christ, taking His name upon them and following His command to love and help people around them throughout their lives. They are also accountable for their choices and able to repent when they make mistakes. My daughter, Shea, will be turning eight in June and she has chosen to be baptized by her father.

Spiritual preparation has been the most important of the steps leading up to the baptism day, but Shea was also excited to put on this beautiful white dress (from her cousin, Zoe) and shoes (from her grandma B.) and go to the Mesa Temple to take photos. The baptismal covenant is the first step in her journey of following Christ and making promises to Him. The next covenants will be in the temple, the House of the Lord.

Some of these photos were used to create an announcement/invitation for her baptism. I loved this time with my oldest and very thoughtful daughter. Here are some of my favorite images captured around 9am on Sunday, May 21st.
